David Souccar
David Souccar is the Chief Investment Officer of Vontobel Quality Growth, a boutique managing more than $10 billion in assets, and lead portfolio manager of the firm’s International Equity strategy. He has more than 20 years of experience as a global investor, focused on long-term quality compounders. Before Vontobel, he was a Senior Equity Analyst at Federated Investors and a sell-side analyst at Morgan Stanley, and began his career as a consultant at McKinsey & Co. David holds an MBA in Finance and Management from NYU’s Stern School of Business and a degree in Chemical Engineering from Escola de Engenharia Mauá in Brazil.
Evan Tindell
Evan Tindell is co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of Bireme Capital, where he runs the firm’s “Fundamental Value” strategy and does the bottom-up research behind it. He previously spent seven years as lead equity analyst at Ballentine Capital, a value-oriented long/short equity fund. Before that he played poker professionally for three years, finishing 10th at a European Poker Tour event. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, where he was a four-time All-American in tennis.
Tim McElvaine, CFA, CPA
Tim McElvaine is founder and president of McElvaine Investment Management in Victoria, British Columbia. He began his career in accounting at Touche Ross in Toronto and at the Bank of N.T. Butterfield in Bermuda, before joining Peter Cundill & Associates in 1991. Over twelve years there he managed the Cundill Security Fund, co-managed the Cundill Value Fund, and served as chief investment officer. He has sat on the boards of several listed companies including Glacier Media, Sun-Rype Products and Rainmaker Entertainment, and is currently a director of Tiny Ltd. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen’s University and is a CFA Charterholder and CPA.
Robert Leitz
Robert Leitz is founder and managing director of iolite Capital, a Zurich investment firm taking concentrated, long-term positions in a small number of listed businesses. He previously worked in commodities and special situations at Glencore, TPG Credit, Goldman Sachs’s European Special Situations Group, and KPMG Corporate Restructuring. He holds an MSc in Business Administration and Economics from the University of St. Gallen, and has served as a non-executive director of Opterion Health.
Berna Barshay
Berna Barshay has three decades in the capital markets, with deep expertise in retail, e-commerce, traditional and digital media, gaming and leisure, and consumer packaged goods. She began her career in equity derivatives at Goldman Sachs and was a buy-side analyst at Sanford Bernstein covering global consumer cyclicals, before working as an analyst at long/short funds including Sky Zone Capital, Metropolitan Capital and LaGrange Capital, and as a portfolio manager at Swiss Re and a family office. She was founder and portfolio manager of the Ingleside Select Fund. She later wrote the Empire Financial Daily newsletter, which reached over 200,000 subscribers, and is now a partner at the financial media platform Wall Street Beats. She holds an AB from Princeton and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Michael Fritzell, CFA
Based in Singapore, over the past decade, Michael is the author of Asian Century Stocks, a publication covering Asian equities and read by 20,000+ investors. Before launching Asian Century Stocks, Michael was a portfolio manager at the Dunross family office and worked as an analyst at Shanghai-based fund manager Asia Growth Investors, now part of a larger group called East Capital.
Marina Sitsiuhina, CFA, CPA
Marina Sitsiuhina covers the consumer discretionary and information technology sectors at Kopernik Global Investors, which she joined in 2018. She has worked in the investment industry since 2010 and held earlier positions at GE. She studied at Minsk State Linguistic University in Belarus, holds a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Wisconsin, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She is a CFA Charterholder and a CPA.
Marcel Gozali, CFA
Marcel Gozali heads Stone Sentinel Capital, which runs a concentrated global public equities strategy. He founded investment partnerships between 2017 and 2021 after 15 years in equity and credit research, portfolio management, and asset allocation at investment banks, hedge funds, and family offices. He is from Singapore and Indonesia. He holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, where he completed the Heilbrunn Center’s Value Investing Program, and a BA in Economics from Carleton College. He is a CFA Charterholder.
Simon Caufield
Simon Caufield is managing director of SIM Limited, which he founded in 2007 after selling his stake in Nomis Solutions, the B2B enterprise software company he founded in 2002 and grew to around 100 employees. He manages family capital and runs a private client advisory business. His circle of competence is deep value, cyclicals and deceptively cheap compounders in the industrial, consumer discretionary and non-bank financial sectors. He was previously a management consultant for more than a decade, including at Mercer Management Consulting, and holds an MA in Engineering from Cambridge and an MBA from London Business School. He is an active member of the CFA UK value investing special interest group
Michael Kasper
Michael Kaspar is a Portfolio Manager at Aquilla Nummus Ltd, where he oversees a multi-asset investment portfolio exceeding USD 300 million in assets under management across fixed income securities, equities, and private assets. Michael joined the firm over seven years ago as an intern, progressed to Analyst, and now serves as Portfolio Manager, building deep expertise in the firm’s investment strategy and processes. He holds a BSc in Finance & Economics from the University of Nicosia and a Master’s in Finance from the Cyprus International Institute of Management (CIIM), has passed CFA Level II, and holds the CySEC Advanced Certificate.
Samir Mohamed
Samir invests full-time, running a concentrated portfolio of his own capital and, previously, his family’s. His pitches at past FatAlpha conferences have been among the best-performing. He spent 13 years at Siemens, most recently as global head of product management for a €170m industrial business — an operator’s grounding he now brings to analyzing companies from the outside. He holds a master’s in Management, Technology and Economics and a bachelor’s in materials science, both from ETH Zurich. He is based in Thailand.
Joel Schols
Joel is a telecommunications engineer who spent his career in the ICT industry. Twenty years ago, he founded his own company, which grew largely by acquiring distressed businesses, and sold it in 2018 to one of Belgium’s leading operators. That experience led him to value investing. With Sam Hollanders he co-founded Chess Capital, a zero management fee fund now operating as a compartment within an umbrella structure, with a regulated Luxembourg fund in progress. They also run an educational investing website in Dutch.
Julio Cesar Coelho, CFA
Julio has a career in asset management in both São Paulo and London, along with experience in DCM and M&A. Recently, he held positions at Wincent, one of the leading HFT shops in the world, and founded Lapin Capital in 2019, which invests in small and micro-caps, achieving and annualized return in excess of 20% since inception.
Antonio Velardo
Antonio is founding partner and chief investment officer of Moat Investing, a value-focused equity boutique, and chairman of its parent, Real Capital Ventures. He invests in underfollowed equities with a long-term, fundamentals-driven approach, looking for businesses with durable competitive advantages trading below intrinsic value. He works between Spain and the Americas.
