Our Remarkable Story
Frustrated by overpriced and underwhelming conferences, Sophocles Sophocleous and Tim du Toit launched the Value Investing Seminar in Cyprus in 2016. Their vision was simple: create an affordable, high-quality gathering where investors from around the world could exchange actionable ideas in diverse locations.
Over time, Sophocles refined the event and established a permanent home for it, evolving it into the Cyprus Value Investor Conference—now FatAlpha Value (Cyprus), following the launch of a second event in Asia. To protect participants and foster a strong community, confidentiality and non-solicitation rules became core principles of the event’s philosophy.
The Next Chapter
After witnessing the remarkable success of the Cyprus Value Investor Conference—now filling to capacity months in advance and maintaining a long waiting list—I’ve realized there is a global appetite for an honest, high-quality investment community. The unique atmosphere of our Cyprus event, capped at 80 participants, has been key to fostering genuine relationships and meaningful exchanges. While this intimacy is essential and cannot be scaled in person, there is something from Cyprus that can be shared worldwide: the spirit of thoughtful discussion, actionable ideas, and a true sense of community.
The next chapter is about opening this experience to a broader audience. Through two new online events, we will make the same high standards of content and connection accessible to both professional and retail investors who are unable to join us in Cyprus or Asia. More than just events, these initiatives will extend our thriving community—currently active year-round on WhatsApp—into a global network. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with passionate, like-minded investors, sharing insights and investment ideas in an environment built on trust, confidentiality, and mutual respect.
By taking this step, we aim to preserve what makes the Cyprus event special while allowing more investors to benefit from its core values: high-quality content and a strong, supportive community.

Sophocles Sophocleous, CFA
Founder
Sophocles brings decades of investment expertise and a passion for connecting financial minds.Born in Canada, Sophocles is a Fulbright Scholar and CFA Charterholder with extensive experience in both developed and emerging markets across equities and debt. He served as a full-time advisor to Zurich-based activist fund Veraison Capital AG. Prior to that, he managed two Actively Managed Certificates (AMCs) under Julius Baer (Switzerland), achieving benchmark outperformance during his tenure. Sophocles has managed institutional portfolios across multiple geographies and asset classes, including an 11-year stint with London-based Emerging Markets fund manager Argo Capital Management. He has taught the CFA Level 1 at the European University Nicosia and designed and taught an applied portfolio management course at the Cyprus International Institute of Management. A frequent speaker at events globally and host of “No Fluff, Just Ideas” podcast. He holds a double major in Economics and Finance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
